Extensive research has been conducted into skin whitening techniques for the cosmetics industry, resulting in a wide range of medically prescribed products. Dermatological research shows that pigmentation problems are the number one concern for skin patients*.
Research also shows that the ingredient that can treat pigmentation most effectively is Polyol Soluble Licorice Extract P-T (40) (extracted directly from licorice root). This ingredient prevents the occurrence of melanin biosynthesis (see comparing below, IC50 table), greatly limiting damage caused by pigmentation through safe and effective application. Studies have also revealed the properties of Stearyl Glycyrrhetinate, a highly effective ingredient that prevents inflammation, irritation, and skin allergies resulting from exposure to the sun (UVB induced-erythema). (see picture)
In addition to these wide ranging properties, licorice root extract is known to hinder the skin’s aging process, while acting as an antimicrobial agent.
P-T(40) showed the strongest effect compared to many common whitening agents (58 times stronger than kojic acid, 272 times than ascorbic acid (vitamin C), 2000 times than Arbutin and 16 times than Hydroquinone). |
